Warning Signs
Fascia rots quietly behind a leaking gutter, and blocked vents under the overhang trap attic heat, so both deserve a look before the next re-roof.

Questions
Look up under the roof edge on a bright day. Paint peeling or bubbling on the fascia, a board that sags or feels soft behind the gutter, gutters pulling loose because the wood no longer holds a screw, gaps where squirrels or birds have found a way in, soffit panels that came down in the wind, and frost or damp on the attic side of the roof edge all say the roofline is due.
Six steps along the whole roofline. We look along the roof edge at a free in-home consultation and send a written estimate, take down the old soffit and gutters, check the boards behind them and replace anything rotten, hang vented aluminum soffit panels, bend aluminum to shape over the fascia boards and seal it, and rehang the gutters. Worn gutters are replaced through gutter installation on the same visit.
Length and rot. How many feet of roofline, the number of stories, how much wood has to be replaced before wrapping, vented versus solid soffit, whether window and door trim gets wrapped too, and the color all set the number. Doing it alongside a new roof saves a second visit, since the roof edge and the fascia are fastened together.
On its own, no. Ice dams come from heat leaking into the attic, so air sealing and insulation above the ceiling are the cure. What vented soffit does is give the attic the intake air the code calls for, which keeps the roof deck closer to the outside temperature and makes the insulation work as intended. Bloomington lists soffit, fascia, and gutters as no-permit work, so this is a quick job to pair with that air sealing.
A day or two on most houses. A long roofline, a lot of rotten wood, or trim on every window add time, and it is often done in the same week as siding so the trim and corners match. Rain pauses the work, and winter installs are routine.
